‘Slava’s Snowshow’…some clowning trade secrets shared!

Publication Date: 23 Mar 2014

More than eight  clowns will take to the stage at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) from 17-19 April in this globally-acclaimed show created and staged by Russian pantomime artist and clown Slava Polunin. The show includes 4 rare yellow clowns and enough snow “to make everybody’s heart warm up and want to stand up and scream with joy.”

A fusion of traditional and contemporary theatrical clowning that weaves a beautifully crafted, vibrant visual fantasy, these amazing performers create a winter snowstorm right inside the hall. The show has entertained audiences in more than 30 countries and 120 cities, including New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and Moscow. The London Times described the show as a theatre classic of the 20th century and dubbed Slava Polunin as ‘the best clown in the world’.

What truly sets Slava’s Snowshow apart from other stage shows is that the talented cast take being silly, seriously, according to the organizers of the show.  Slava’s clowns are trained to be silly for no less than eight hours and fourteen minutes daily, without any coffee breaks. The second most important standard is set in casting; all cast members are hand-picked on the basis of being 100% authentic fools and are asked to act as themselves on stage. The selection criteria is not scientific and factors such as the size of shows, the name of one’s grandmother and the direction of the wind can significantly alter the selection process.

Some frequently asked questions to the clowns of the world acclaimed show include:
