Global recognition for ADNEC’s ExCeL London

Publication Date: 8 Nov 2010

Abu Dhabi: Continuing its 2010 winning streak that has seen it bag numerous awards this year, ExCeL London – the UK venue owned by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, was chosen ‘World’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre,’ at the World Travel Awards ceremony held in London on Sunday (7th November).

ExCeL beat 11 other short-listed nominees from around the globe to bag the prestigious title.

Commenting on the award, H.E. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Managing Director of ADNEC, said: “I am very pleased ExCeL has once again been acknowledged for its industry-leading position for international events and conferences. This latest award follows a number of other industry accolades for ExCeL since it was acquired by ADNEC two and a half years ago, and underscores the effectiveness of the ADNEC board’s strategy for the growth and development of our venue portfolio.”

Pointing to the excellent market feedback to ExCeL London’s Phase Two expansion, which was inaugurated earlier this year, Al Dhaheri stated that the venue had secured business well into 2017.

“ExCeL London competes very effectively with the very top-tier among conference and exhibition centres internationally”, he said.

The award for ExCeL was received by Humaid Al Dhaheri, ADNEC’s Director of Finance and Human Resources, who is also a Member of the ExCeL Board, and David Pegler, ExCeL’s Managing Director.

“This award is a wonderful achievement for all ExCeL and ADNEC staff and recognises ExCeL London’s stature in the global business, tourism and conference industries,” said Humaid Al Dhaheri, on receiving the award.

The World Travel Awards were held prior to the commencement of World Travel Market (WTM), which is being staged at ExCeL London 8 – 11 November 2010, with more than 5,000 exhibitors from 187 countries participating.

Since it was inaugurated in 2000, ExCeL London has staged more than 2,800 events, attracting more than 5 million visitors from 200 countries. In 2012, ExCeL will host seven events during the 2012 London Olympics.
