ADNEC to Host Record Breaking Edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2013

Publication Date: 22 Apr 2013

Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) is set to host the largest attendance of visitors at this year’s 23rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF). Hosted from 24 – 29 April, the 2013 edition will showcase nearly 50,000 titles from over 50 countries for readers of all ages and draw the participation of thousands of literature enthusiasts and more than 25,000 students from schools across the UA.

ADIBF is annually held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The event is one of the fastest growing publishing events that is organised by KITAB, a joint venture company established by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Managing Director at ADNEC, said: “ADIBF is a much awaited annual calendar event that has gained high popularity among literature buffs in the UAE and GCC region. The six day event will serve as a rich platform for leading Arab and international best-selling writers, authors and publishers to engage in an exchange of ideas and thoughts through dialogue on various contemporary cultural and literal issues.”

Al Dhaheri added: “ADNEC and its dedicated team are committed to making this event a success and provide the necessary support to facilitate the record breaking increase of 15 per cent to the events space and 13 per cent in the number of exhibitors. In addition, the growing trend towards the digital publishing industry has led to doubling the size of the ‘eZone’ corner to include a variety of multilingual titles. Our commitment at ADNEC reiterates our commitment to supporting Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 in creating a sustainable knowledge based economy and developing our national human resources.”

ADIBF is particularly important for ADNEC as educational universities, institutes and schools look forward to visiting the exhibition to discover recent trends and titles in the world of culture, science and literature. The fair is expected to become the largest commercial enterprise book event on a national level with its unique opportunity for Arab and international authors and publishers to engage the interest of visitors with an appetite for literature. ADIBF also plays a key role for schools and libraries seeking to enrich their curricula and facilities with valuable content for the upcoming academic year.

Al Dhaheri called upon all government, semi-government entities and the private sector to benefit from the educational opportunity presented by ADIBF. This year’s fair will seek to foster the habit of reading among young readers and demonstrate its importance through storytelling sessions, book signings, and workshops with famous authors from around the world.
