ADNEC Group Scoops Two Awards at AEO Ceremony in London

Publication Date: 13 Jul 2014

The awards, held at London’s Grosvenor House, recognise the best that the global events industry has to offer celebrating organisers’ achievements, venue excellence and service quality.

Marking another successful milestone for the ADNEC Group of venues - which include Al Ain Convention Centre as well as flagship properties in Abu Dhabi and London – ADNEC Group continues to set a benchmark in global event excellence.

His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Managing Director at ADNEC, said: ADNEC continues to play a key role in supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision to become a leading global business tourism destination.”

He continued: “The company’s flagship venues in two key capital cities, London and Abu Dhabi, are at the vanguard of a new age of exhibition facilities. These awards are recognition of that fact, and of the hard work, visionary leadership and solid expertise both have to offer.”

Pieter Idenburg, Group Chief Executive Officer at ADNEC, said: “We are delighted with the recognition our venues continue to attract from our global event industry peers. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre has prioritised its sustainability strategy as a key pillar of its growth and development over the next ten years. From environmental sustainability, to integrating strong economic and professional sustainability measures, the venue continues to identify ways to have a positive and lasting impact on its surroundings.”

He continued: “ExCeL London has shown that even in such a competitive region for meetings and events, it is out-competing its peers both in the UK and across Europe and the world – pushing the boundaries of the event experience. It is a credit to London and an investment we are extremely proud of.”

Among Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre’s noted sustainable features are the use of bio-fuel throughout its facility, as well as the generation of power from solar panels located in car parking areas A and B that cover a total area of 3,300 square metres. The power generated from these panels is used to heat water and power elevators at the Aloft hotel – located within the venue campus – with the remaining 111 kilowatts retained to meet the energy needs of the three-storey car park.

In addition, the venue has made significant headway in its recycling efforts. The company recently recorded a 12 per cent increase in the total waste recycled, which translates into 181,898 kilograms of waste diverted from landfill annually. The rise was achieved through extending the range of waste segregation categories to include glass, printer cartridges and battery waste. Waste bins were also placed at convenient intervals to facilitate the separation process.

Furthermore, by way of professional and economic sustainability, key employees from the venue have spent extended periods of time at ExCeL London as part of a ‘space to perform’ initiative, gathering a deeper level of understanding and knowledge about the industry before transferring that knowledge back to the UAE capital. The initiative has had a positive effect on employee engagement and retention, as well as offering strong commercial returns to the business and Abu Dhabi.
