ADNEC Concludes Thalassemia International Federation World Congress 2013 in Abu Dhabi

Held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the congress was collocated with the 15th TIF International Conference for Parents and Patients and the 13th International Conference on Thalassemia.

The congress consisted of 40 sessions that included scientific programmes conducted by more than 100 internationally recognised speakers from 30 countries. In addition, more than 300 scientific papers related to Thalassemia were presented.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Chief Commercial Officer at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), said: “At ADNEC, we are keen to host information-driven events that highlight topical issues and positively impact the community. The decision to organise the Thalassemia International Federation World Congress in Abu Dhabi was a great accomplishment for us and a result of the outstanding efforts undertaken by the UAE government and its wise leadership to address this condition and shed light on it.”

The 15th TIF International Conference for Parents and Patients included a comprehensive agenda that allowed impacted families to interact with each other and receive valuable insights and tips from the participating experts and delegates.

The first-of-its-kind medical exhibition held under the 13th International Conference on Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Development Foundation. It brought together 30 exhibitors of which 16 belonged to national thalassemia societies from around the globe. The exhibition served as a unique platform for medical and scientific communities, drug manufacturers, as well as national, regional and international medical agencies to exchange know-how and collaborate on future initiatives in dealing with the hereditary blood disorder.

Topics highlighted at the international Conference on Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies included the means of prevention and management of thalassemia and other blood diseases.  The session also examined scientific breakthroughs and emerging innovative technologies.
