ADNEC Attracts More than 1.5 Million Visitors in 2013

ADNEC additionally hosted eight conferences and together with the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, won the right to host four new international conferences including WorldSkills 2017, EcoCity World Summit 2015, the International Conference on Geology 2014 and the 134th  Global IATA Slot Conference 2014.

On the performance of ADNEC, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) said: "Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, was able to distinguish itself as one of the most prominent economic drivers of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, which contributed, along with its other leading national sister institutions, to promote Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for business tourism in line with Abu Dhabi 2030 vision.

“The outstanding performance of ADNEC in 2013 has demonstrated our unique ablity to attract major global events across a variety of economic sectors, and meet the requirements and expectations of our existing customers.

H.E  Sheikh Sultan added: “Our 2013 strategy has focused mainly on identifying new investment opportunities in exhibitions and specialised events, expanding ADNEC facilities to accommodate more events and the ever increasing number of visitors, in addition to the ongoing development of facilities and hotel services for exhibitors and visitors.”

By the end of 2013, the total number of hotel rooms provided by Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre within its premises reached 1,232 rooms, supporting the growth of the centure. Furthermore, the company intensified its media activities, and its senior leadership are now regarded as thought leaders in the business tourism sector.

Among the most prominent events hosted by ADNEC in 2013 World Future Energy Summit on and the accompanying exhibition. The opening session of the summit was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition’s International Conference Centre (ICC), and attended by many of the world’s leading authorities on energy and climate change. The event attracted a total of 30,000 people.

The 2013 International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX), and Naval Defense Exhibition (NAVIDEX) are among the largest and most prominent events held at ADNEC.  IDEX attracted 1,112 companies from 59 countries a total of more than 65,000 visitors. This was the largest exhibition in the history of IDEX, with arms sales during the exhibition exceeding 14 billion dirhams.

2013 was also a record breaking year in terms of awards for ADNEC, which scooped numerous international awards including Middle East's Leading Exhibition and Convention Centre by World Travel Awards, the Best Congress and Convention Centre in the Middle East for Al Ain Convention Centre at Business Destinations 2013 Travel Awards, the Best Commercial High Rise Development at the Arabian Property Awards 2013 for the Capital Gate tower and World’s Leading Conventions and Meeting Centre by the World Travel Awards for the third consecutive year.

ADNEC also hosted the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which witnessed the participation of nearly 900 publishers from 54 countries around the world and displayed more than 500 thousand titles in more than 33 languages. The exhibition provided visitors with a unique combination of programs, perfectly balanced between professional development and the panel discussions about the publishing industry, in addition to rich cultural discussions and the opportunity to turn the show into the premier destination for book fans.

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition also hosted the Gulf Incentive, Business, and Conference Travel Exhibition—an important event, providing an important regional platform for event centres, hotels, tourist destinations and suppliers in order to interact with the conference organizers, incentive travel purchase managers, as well as stakeholders in the conference, incentive, business and exhibitions tourism. We expect this year's edition to be even more successful than previous sessions.

Meanwhile, 2013 also witnessed the largest session in the history of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) —one of the largest and most important exhibitions and conferences concerned with the oil industry on the regional and international level. 1,650 companies from 58 countries and 13 national pavilions in participated, with an attendance of more than 60,000 specialists and oil and gas experts over the course of four days.

2013 also saw the launch of the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, a unit tasked with supporting the development of the business tourism industry in Abu Dhabi and facilitate the achievement of a goal to see Abu Dhabi among the 50 top destinations in for conferences in the world.
